Debt Free for Valentines Day

This Valentines Day instead of giving each other small tokens of our love, Stephen and I gifted each other with FREEDOM FROM DEBT after paying off Carol Lee (🚙) in 5.5 months since we bought her.

A couple of months after we bought the car we started listening to @daveramsey really consistently and read his book "Total Money Makeover". It made us start to question our decision to 'buy new' even to the point where we talked about selling the car and buying a used one with cash. Ultimately, we decided to keep the car but get it paid off FAST. So that's exactly what we did.
·
I don't say this to brag. I say this in hopes that it makes you think a little bit about your spending just like it made us. Before listening to Dave's podcast we honestly looked at the money we spent on the car every month as if it was a rent payment. A car payment is not the same as a rent payment though. Not only is there interest involved (if you do the math on how much you spend monthly or daily on interest it should make you cringe) but this specific car isn't a necessity in our life (heck we proved we were able to survive just fine with my little old Golf). A roof over our heads (aka rent) IS a necessity, however. When we realized that $545 is EXTRA money that could be going into our account every month instead of the bank's, it all clicked for us.

Not only is it exciting to have Carol Lee paid off but this time of life has ignited a huge passion in me for helping others get right with their finances. I might not have a degree in the subject but I do know how it feels to live debt free so if I can help others do the same that's exactly what I'll strive to do.

Would you all want to hear more about how we handle our finances/see money related posts? We have some really exciting ones in the works for this year (because hello! Living debt free = living an elevated LIFE!) so if this is something you all are interested in we'll get the gears turning to come up with more to share with you all! •
